Kosher-Conscious Event Staffing for Chicago’s North Shore

Professional servers, captains, bartenders, and kitchen staff trained to work within the service standards established for your mitzvah, wedding, holiday meal, lifecycle event, or family gathering. Respectful hospitality, clear boundaries, and a 25-year North Shore team that understands the event is yours to experience.

Trained to Follow the Event’s Established Service Plan

Kosher-conscious staffing means the service team arrives with dedicated training, understands that kosher and kosher-style events may require specific handling boundaries, and follows the instructions established for that event. Those instructions may come from the family, the kosher caterer, the venue, a synagogue, or the supervising authority responsible for the event.

The role of the staff is hospitality execution: setting and maintaining service areas, following assigned handling procedures, caring for guests, coordinating food and beverage service, and asking the right person before making a decision that could affect the event’s standards. The training helps the team recognize that these details matter and that improvising outside the approved plan is not acceptable.

Kosher-conscious is not the same as kosher-certified. That Special Event does not certify food, determine halachic compliance, replace a mashgiach, or provide rabbinic supervision. We provide trained event staff who work within the rules set by those responsible for the event.

Awareness, Boundaries, and Knowing When to Step in

The approved project sources confirm that TSE staff complete dedicated kosher-conscious service training. The training is designed to make staff more aware, more disciplined, and more reliable when working inside a kosher or kosher-style service plan. Confirmed training outcomes:

Recognizing that the event may have specific food, beverage, equipment, kitchen, and service-area rules.

Following the direction of the family, caterer, venue, captain, or supervising authority assigned to the event.

Keeping the team’s assigned service areas organized and using only the equipment or supplies approved for that event.

Asking before acting when a task, item, or handling instruction is unclear.

Treating religious and family traditions with discretion, respect, and professional hospitality.

A Service Standard Built with the Community

That Special Event’s approach to kosher-conscious service grew from years of working with Jewish families across the North Shore. Jerry Carlson and Jack Carlson have trained staff alongside the management team, with longtime client and friend Cheryl Heisler also contributing instruction on kosher-conscious service.

It’s experience built through real weddings, mitzvahs, holiday gatherings, and events in homes and venues throughout the community. If your event has kosher or Jewish hospitality needs, let’s talk about what you’re planning and how our team can support it.

Clear Boundaries Protect the Event

Kosher-Conscious Staff Can

Follow the kosher-style service plan for the event.

Use service items and areas as directed.

Maintain approved separation and handling instructions once those instructions are clearly provided.

Coordinate servers, bar, kitchen, and support tasks.

Stop and ask the appropriate person when an instruction or item is unclear.

Kosher-Conscious Staff Do Not

Certify that food, equipment, or a kitchen is kosher.

Determine halachic requirements or interpret religious law.

Replace a mashgiach, rabbi, kosher caterer, or other required supervisor.

Independently change the approved service plan.

Guarantee religious compliance beyond the staff’s assigned responsibilities.

One Service Team, Inside the Plan You Establish

Kosher-conscious staffing works best when responsibilities are clear before the event. TSE works alongside the kosher caterer, synagogue team, venue, planner, or designated supervisor, with the appropriate person identified in advance to answer questions about kosher practices. Our captain keeps the staff aligned with the approved plan, respects established boundaries, and directs questions to the right person rather than making assumptions.

The Team Is Built Around the Event, Not a Generic Ratio

Staffing recommendations begin with the operation, not only the guest count. A mitzvah with adult dining, youth stations, two beverage areas, a separate kitchen, and a full breakdown requires a different team than a Rosh Hashanah dinner, Yom Kippur break-fast gathering, Passover event, bris, or shiva in a private home. Information to share when requesting a quote:

Event date, location, venue or home, and estimated guest count.

Event type and service format: plated, buffet, stations, family-style, cocktail reception, or a combination.

The caterer, planner, venue contact, synagogue contact, or supervising authority involved.

Kitchen, staging, dish, bar, and service-area layout.

Roles are needed: servers, captains, bartenders, chefs or kitchen staff, and support staff.

Setup, breakdown, dish handling, leftover handling, coat check, and other expected responsibilities.

The event’s kosher or kosher-style instructions and who has final authority for questions.

“The staffing for our grandson's Bar Mitzvah was outstanding! The group was led by Brian Schreiber. He is incomparable! Brian took full responsibility to alleviate any of our concerns and responsibilities.”

Gary

“So happy to have Mauricio Galeano as our server for our grandson’s baby naming party. He was very pleasant, organized, and anticipated our needs, giving his ideas about setting up the buffet just before the party started, and in constant motion tidying up during the event, adding ice, or food as needed, packaging up leftovers for us to take home afterward. We anticipated 50 people, I think we had 70, and he was super.”

Susan

“Erika was wonderful! Simply the best! I want her next year for my Rosh Hashona dinner!”
